Senior Counsel – Estate Planning and Trust Administration

Fall 2026
Location: Bay Area, California / Remote

Build the next chapter of your exceptional estate planning practice.

Blacksburg Law is seeking an experienced estate planning attorney who’s ready to turn the corner on their professional career. We’re looking for someone interested in building meaningful client relationships, practicing sophisticated estate planning, and helping shape the future of an established boutique practice.

This is an opportunity for an attorney with 8–12 years of estate planning experience who enjoys designing thoughtful estate plans, leading trust administration, and values long-term client relationships.

Our firm focuses exclusively on estate planning, trust administration, and the occasional estate taxable matter. We believe exceptional legal work begins with exceptional client service.

About Blacksburg Law

Blacksburg Law has built a reputation providing bespoke estate planning services with an emphasis on communication, education, and long-term relationships. Our clients include individuals, families, business owners, and professionals primarily in the Bay Area and a smattering beyond.

We are intentionally boutique. We prioritize quality over volume, relationships over transactions, and teamwork over hierarchy.

Position Overview

The primary focus of this role will be leading estate plan design and advisory, which includes working closely with our clients to develop workable, effective solutions and advise them on the necessary “soft work” that turns documented estate plans into successful and intentional legacies.

We are seeking an experienced and caring estate planning attorney with at least eight years of professional experience in designing and implementing non-taxable estate plans for high-net-worth individuals and families. Experience in trust administration or probate is a valuable bonus.

What You Will Do

  • Design and draft estate plans that support our clients’ planning needs using our process to ensure streamlined drafting, organization, and client comfortability with communication.
  • Manage estate planning engagements from intake to completion, ensuring an exceptional client experience. Our estate planning engagements use a team approach, and a core success metric is working with others toward the engagement’s goal.
  • Educate and advise clients on client-centered estate planning options, including asset management, responsibility oversight, and legacy distributions.
  • Oversee occasional trust administration or probate cases as needed, supporting clients through these processes.
  • Collaborate with the team on high-net-worth planning engagements and contribute to the firm’s foundational planning group.
  • Originate new clients. Work with senior leadership on client relationship management, business development, and referral network cultivation.

Required

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in California or qualified military spouse waiver.
  • An unblemished ethics record.
  • A minimum of eight years of estate planning experience.
  • A deep understanding of trust law, estate planning strategies, and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Strong client-service and drafting skills for high-net-worth individuals and families that do not have taxable estates.
  • Proficiency in WealthCounsel, Clio, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Word.

Beneficial

  • Remote work experience.
  • Additional experience in trust administration or probate (preferred but not required).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong, long-term client relationships.
  • A proactive, organized, and self-motivated approach to handling legal matters.

What We Offer

  • 100% remote business.
  • A competitive six-figure compensation package commensurate with experience and location.
  • Employee benefits, including health contributions, a 401(k) plan, profit share, and an incentive program.
  • Flexible hours and a supportive work environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
  • A team of experienced, long-term staff committed to excellence and a positive workplace culture.

Long-Term Opportunity

We recognize that experienced attorneys often seek more than compensation alone.

For the attorney who demonstrates exceptional judgment, leadership, and commitment to our clients, this role offers the opportunity to assume increasing responsibility and help shape the firm’s future. We are interested in building a long-term professional relationship with someone who shares our commitment to excellence and client service.

How to Apply

Please submit a résumé and a brief letter describing your estate planning experience to operations+hiring@blacksburg-law.com. We’d love to hear about your approach to client service and what you are seeking in the next stage of your career. We also request a sample of a children’s trust provision that you are particularly proud of drafting.
